The first wine is Pink Elephant 2006.

This is a self styled “ultimate rosé” from Portugal. It’s own blurb tell us…

Pink Elephant, a new Rosé wine from Portugal, has been created by two of the world’s great winemakers, José Neiva and David Baverstock. They enlisted the help of 12 leading wine experts, including two Masters of Wine, to decide on a style which can be the definitive match for spicy food – Pink Elephant is the result. Pink Elephant has intense fruity aromas, mouth watering juiciness, crisp, fresh flavours with hints of strawberries and raspberries. Serve chilled and colder than any other wine.

Hmm. I think this pink elephant is blowing it’s own trumpet a little! Was it any good though?

Well, it wasn’t bad at all. It was fruity, a definite hint of strawberries, dry with only a hint of sweetness. They suggest this is ideal with spicy food and I’d agree but it’s also a decent glug on it’s own. For about £4 a bottle (£3.50 per bottle for 6 currently) it would be well worth getting a couple of bottles for your wine store even if you’re not a real fan of rosé.
